We're excited to announce that ShareCost is now available on the App Store and Google Play.
Splitting expenses with friends, family, or travel companions should be simple. Yet somehow, it always turns into a mess of mental math, forgotten IOUs, and awkward conversations. ShareCost was built to fix that — and today, we're releasing the first production version of the app.
Why We Built ShareCost
We've all been there. A group trip, a shared apartment, a dinner with friends. Someone pays, everyone promises to settle up "later," and weeks pass. Existing solutions either lack multi-currency support, require constant internet access, or feel stuck in 2015.
ShareCost is a modern expense sharing app designed around three core principles:

- Stays out of your way — fast, intuitive, no friction
What Makes ShareCost Different
Offline-First Architecture
Unlike most expense apps that become useless without a signal, ShareCost works fully offline. Add expenses on a plane, in a mountain cabin, or in a subway tunnel. When you reconnect, everything syncs automatically — no data loss, no duplicates, no conflicts.

True Multi-Currency Support
ShareCost supports 107 currencies with daily exchange rate updates. Traveling through Europe and splitting costs in EUR, CZK, and GBP? No problem. Every expense records the original currency, the exchange rate at the time of entry, and converts everything to a common base for accurate balance calculation.
No more spreadsheet gymnastics when your group trip spans three countries.
Flexible Splitting
Not every expense splits evenly. ShareCost supports:
- Equal splits — divide evenly among participants
- Exact amounts — specify what each person owes
- Percentage-based — 60/40, 70/30, or any ratio
- Share-based — custom ratios like 2:1:1
- Selective participation — exclude members who weren't involved
Groups for Every Occasion
Whether it's a household, a road trip, a weekly dinner club, or a work team — ShareCost adapts. Create groups with custom names, currencies, and invite links. Share a QR code or send an invite link with built-in expiration and usage limits.
Smart Settlements
When it's time to settle up, ShareCost calculates the optimal set of payments to minimize the number of transactions. Instead of everyone paying everyone, the app tells you exactly who should pay whom — and how much.
Receipt Capture
Snap a photo of your receipt and attach it directly to an expense. No more digging through photos to prove who paid for what.
Built for Privacy and Security
Every database table is protected by Row Level Security — you can only see data from groups you belong to. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and account deletion is fully GDPR-compliant.

- Receipt OCR — snap a photo, GPT-4o-mini extracts merchant, amount, date, and suggests a category
- Recurring expenses — templates with daily/weekly/monthly/yearly frequency, pause, resume, skip
- Settlement optimizer — minimizes the number of transactions needed to settle all debts
- 23 payment methods — bank transfer, Revolut, PayPal, crypto wallets, and more — with QR code generation
